Supporting African-American Teacher Retention by Dr. Malika Hollinside

Our very own Dr. Malika Hollinside has published her first article with the California Department of Education and will present at their annual conference later this month in San Diego! Her article is attached and is a GREAT read…VERY interesting! We are so proud and honored that she is an integral part of Sisters of Nia!

2017 Nia Retreat

2017 Nia Retreat

Had a GREAT time at our annual Nia retreat with our 7th grade girls! We all realized we’re stronger than we thought we were, individually and collectively, physically and emotionally. We welcomed two new girls to the group, which made us even stronger. The girls all accomplished some great feats and we all enjoyed spending time together…what a great way to start the new Nia year!

Challenging team building exercise...but, they did it!
Meet Dayanna...this girl right here was on fire at the ropes course! She accomplished every challenge. She even did a couple of them blindfolded the second time around and still conquered he challenges! We were all so proud of her! Before starting the challenge course, Dayanna had never participated in anything similar to this experience...great job Dayanna!
Big Day of Giving 2017

Big Day of Giving 2017

BIG Day of Giving May 4 ~ 2017

THURSDAY, MAY 4 ~ 24 HRS. OF GIVING!!!

Help us continue to impact the lives of our girls…

Sisters of Nia, Inc. is again part of the BIG Day of Giving – our region’s giving challenge where, over a 24 hour period from midnight to midnight, we will join hundreds of other nonprofits to make our region #1 as the most generous community in the country on this national day of giving!

Last year, Sisters of Nia successfully raised over $4,500 with the support and donations from many of you. The funds allowed us to award two scholarships to our high school graduates, offset expenses related to parent-daughter events which allowed us to charge minimal to no fees, and also offset some general program expenses.

This year, our goal is to raise $10,000, and with your support we intend to do so. We want to expand our program during the next year and also want to bring back our low-cost, two-week summer performing arts camp. In addition, we need to purchase a projector and screen for workshops and presentations. In addition, a portion of funds raised this year will be allocated toward an organizational growth consultant.

Be part of the giving movement and help us improve our community by joining with others on May 4th, an historic BIG Day of Giving! Please tell your friends about our important work and to join you in helping to make a difference in many lives. Thank you in advance fo
Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services Community Service

Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services Community Service

Our girls worked in the clothing pantry in December at the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services…just one way we are showing our appreciation for them allowing us to hold our weekly meetings there. Our girls worked hard straightening the store, shelving items, and even doing personal shopping for some of their customers. It was great for our girls to see first hand how their service benefits the community…we’re looking forward our next volunteer day with the Sacramento Food Bank!

Special thanks to the Sacramento Food Bank for supporting Sisters of Nia!
