Such a beautiful day today, the 8th Annual Youth Leadership Conference was a wonderful success! Thank you to all who had their son or daughter attend. We had 35 youth attended and participated in workshops teaching them how to create and deliver spoken word, they wrote their own affirmation poetry, and they also created murals based on their personal values. All workshops were lead by our Nia alumnae (high school and college). It’s such a wonderful thing to be able to watch our alumnae girls facilitate workshops to educate, empower, and inspire a younger generation. At the end of the day we held an open mic where they were encouraged to share their spoken word pieces and poems with the group, there were several youth who did so. We also had 2 parent workshops focused on building family relationships and recognizing depression in our children. We gave away multiple raffle prizes and served a filling breakfast and lunch.
Shout out to One Community Health for their sponsorship and also for facilitating a parent workshop! Shout out to Kim of UJAM for the energizing UJAM session! A huge shout out to all the Nia alumni who presented workshops and/or performed! Thank you so much, words cannot express our appreciation! And a special extra large shout out to the Elk Grove Community Services District for approving our partnership and allowing us to hold our conference there! Again, today was a great day!
